but for the Auto Rx clean and rinse the less expensive paper elements versions will be A-OK. I have seen this Auto Rx stuff do a great job specifically in MB V6 abd V8's, it just takes a bit more patience than the harsher solvent flushes some others use (which I personally don't recommend) - and beaucoup cheaper than a top end tear down.Īlso note Mann and Mahle both make paper element and fleece element oil filters, and the ply fleece filters are best ongoing. ps I noticed in my SLK that the SRS light stays on until the engine starts, then it goes off. Find someone who has the proper tool to read/clear Mercedes faults including airbag (Carly for Mercedes is said to but I have not had to try to clear that fault. The newer "Diesel" 5W-40 also has a ton of added antisludge in it - but I wouldn't depend on the proper oil alone to solve that head sludge buildup problem. Fortunately I was able to prove the light was off before I let the dealer perform the recall. The proper sythetic for ongoing is "Euro" 0W-40, which is pricier than other synthetics, but it pumps up fastest and has added anti-sludge components. Then it is just a matter of patiently (and carefully) cleaning everything until the problem is resolved. The key to all this is first, fix the oil leak. After plugging everything back in, you will need to reset your codes. Dino oil for the cleaning is best, and you can use dino or synthetic for the rinse (and using dino again will save a few bucks). After the oil is all gone be sure to let everything dry well before plugging anything back in. Means about 2500 miles on the "cleaning" cycle, and 2500 miles on the "rinse" cycle. If "sludging" is the problem, I recommend you try Auto Rx treatment, which for our capacity requires 1 1/2 bottles, and use dino oil for the "cleaning" cycle.
